The SIDE STEP : (PERA Edition)
I rarely have regrets in my life. I've been through hell and back, got out and back,
and then tried (and still trying) to climb out of it until this day. So I'm used to have a little,
or some, a lot, or nothing at all. I don't mind doing hard things and endure some pain
before gaining things. For me, everything, good or bad, prepares me for something
harder and greater. My life had always been game 7's.

But if only I could have time back, I would want to study and immersed myself more on
business, marketing, computer and, most specially, finance. I wished I saved earlier
- I would have been investing a lot now, and making my money works for me.
This is not about greed or whatnot. This is about spending my time to what matters
the most. I realized, as a newbie father, my son's growing up too fast and
I am away securing his future - when I could have been by his side.
I have learned that we really do not spend money, but we, on everything, spend our time.
When you say, I will buy this Php 25, 000 watch in 2 yrs, though you are paying it with
money, you are actually giving it your time - which is irreplaceable.

I wished I had learned that it was never about how much you earn, but how much you
keep (and later on, how much you grow your finances;) That it was never about how
much you save, but how early and often do you set aside for your savings; That there's
this thing we call passive income - where money works for you; That there is an 8th wonder
of the world, per Albert Einstein, called compound interest; That there's this gang called
financial goals called savings, emergency, insurance, investment, and retirement funds.

I wished I had someone who had taught and talked me about these stuffs.
I could have started way earlier. I could have researched more about the how-to's
and what-to-do's of these topics; could have attended seminars, forums and webinars.
Could have done this, could have done that.

But I realized, nothing is ever too late.
I started by researching and watching Youtube videos about money. Searched Google
about terms and trends. Leveraged Facebook to check financial pages & groups.
Visited local banks and cooperatives. When I felt confident enough, I started saving.
The very basic of financial world, which ironically, is one of the hardest thing to do by people
today. It was hard at first but when my savings grew into an amount I never had before,
I became excited and became more motivated to continue and keep up with what I am doing.

I am father now, and I felt obligated to do this. Obligated in a sense that, I now have a
human being who puts his entire future at my disposal - which I should not,
and would not mess up.

I understand that millennials has this YOLO (you only live once) thing right now.
Yeah, we only live once, but, for how long? What if you live 100yrs old?
You gotta party all nite until you're what? Until when? And what if you die tonite?
What about the people you love? What's going to happen to the people whom you'll leave
behind?

2 things, kids : EITHER YOU DIE YOUNG, OR YOU LIVE TOO OLD.
Die young, OK, cos maybe you don't have what I have now. But what about getting old?

I maybe a bit late, and so are you but better late than never.
I suggest you start now because never late, is always better.
